A Social App
for Artists
BUILT BY ARTISTS
LET'S FACE IT
Artists create some of the best content on every platform, but platforms aren't putting artists first.
Increasing competition from advertisers and "influencers"
"Black-box algorithms" that determine which posts are seen
No artist protection and limited control
As artists,
we care about:
HONING OUR CRAFT
By immersing ourselves in a constructive environment.
MAKING REAL CONNECTIONS
That help us navigate the unknown,
and build a foundation for success.
FINDING AN AUDIENCE
Without spending all day on
marketing ourselves.
STAYING INSPIRED
Through the creative droughts we
know we'll encounter
CONTROLLING OUR WORK
In a world of copycats and rip-offs
seeking to commercialize our art.
A founder's story
Back in the early 2000’s in Lowell, MA, I was fresh out of art school and still painting and creating, trying to find and develop my own style. It was tough no longer being surrounded by my peers and immersed in an environment where people were constantly sharing work and feedback.

It took me a while to re-discover that sense of community and inspiration, and it organically sort of happened on Flickr when I joined groups like Lowbrow Art, Fecal Face Dot Com, and Wooster Collective. We were artists from all over, and we bonded through trading sticker art or geeking out over the latest work that John Trippe was covering in the Bay Area, or Aaron Rose was curating at Alleged Gallery in NYC.

These little, tight-knit communities provided the foundation of my creative network and were really encouraging in my formative years. A little while later I followed the crowd over to Instagram, which was a special place early on. But in recent years it’s increasingly felt like a place for advertisers and brands rather than a community for artists and inspiration.

With Choice, I’m excited to try to recapture a bit of that magic. A place where we can connect with one another, form little sub-communities, and share weird and unique work that we’re constantly creating and discovering. The world has changed a lot in the last 20 years, but I think as artists we all still crave that connection to creativity, now more than ever.

What we've built
(so far)
The "Stack"
Endless exploration and
algorithm-free discovery.
Collections
A collaborative way to feature
artwork that we love.
Channels
"Digital galleries" for real-time
exhibition and communication.
How we're thinking different
Better Visibility
Everyone will eventually see your artwork in the “stack”, and if it resonates it’ll be shared onward.
Protected Attribution
Creator credit is enforced by running every upload through a “deduping” algorithm.
"Taste Match"
Find common ground with other users whose personal swipe behaviors match your own.
Collaborative Curation
Publish a collection with friends or join a channel where artists can share and discuss in real-time.
Artist Portfolios
Design your space to showcase your work, tell your story, and talk about your influences.

What's next on the roadmap
Audio commentary
What better way to experience art than to hear directly from the artist? We’re looking into giving artists the ability to record audio tracks to accompany their artwork.
Artist resources
We've heard feedback that there isn't a great single repository for artist resources – grants, programs, open calls, and other ways to further your career and grow your audience.
We’re focused on deepening ways for artists to connect with one another. What do you think we should build next?
